It's great. And everything will kill you.
Had been wanting this for a while and whilst the rules take work to learn - playing solo you need to internalise the rulebook, the expansion rulebook AND the solo rulebook - it is worth it. (I'm talking about base game and the expansion together here.)
If you play a full length game the system grows and changes around you. Your strategy changes as more opportunities appear and others diminish or vanish. It is a dice chucker and the risks you take feel very real. I was killed by comets 3 times in the first 4 turns in one game. You learn to manage those risks but you can wind up needing to take a punt to make a big turn come together and the feeling of jeopardy is intense! I've already lost hours and hours to this game but i never notice the time passing. It has a real sense of humour about itself as well - the descriptions of each ship's upholstery are hilarious!
In short, it's the big fun thinky space game I've been looking for for ages!
