We're now recruiting for an Assistant Café Manager, Game Gurus &Café Staff to work at Thirsty Meeples in Oxford. Full and part-time hours available. ASSISTANT CAFÉ MANAGER

A practical hands-on role, ensuring café operations run smoothly, directing and supporting staff members.

- full and part-time positions available -

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In the absence of the Café Manager, take full responsibility for the effective operation of Thirsty Meeples Oxford.
  • Welcome customers and respond to any issues arising.
  • Prepare and serve food and drink, with key responsibility for ensuring allergen safety.
  • Manage staff team.
  • Following opening and closing procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Commitment to quality customer experience.
  • Strong verbal communication - clear, concise and engaging.
  • Able to work independently, multi-task and remaining calm under pressure
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.

 

CAFÉ STAFF (MEEPSTERS)

You'll be tasked with ensuring that board game players don't go without essential beverages and food for the duration of their gaming session.

From preparing drinks and snacks, to taking and delivering orders, you'll be keeping the supply lines going whilst the dice roll, the cards are shuffled and the meeples march on.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To create a fun, welcoming and professional environment for customers.
  • To explain to customers how the board game café works including the role of the Game Gurus.
  • Ensuring that great drinks and food compliment the game playing experience - knowing our menu and being able to explain the different products.
  • To take accurate orders and ensure that these are prepared and delivered as quickly as possible.
  • Preparing bills, using a till and handling money.

GAME GURUS

Game Gurus are our board game maître d's - you'll be infectiously passionate and knowledgeable about modern board games, recommending games to our customers and explaining how to play.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To create a fun, welcoming and professional environment for customers, explaining how the board game café works.
  • To help customers choose the right games according to their interests, what they've played before and group size.
  • To explain how to set up chosen games, the key objectives and how to play.
  • To maintain a broad and up to date knowledge of board games, across a variety of genres and especially the new hotness.
  • Organising and coordinating of in-house events such as organised play.
  • Preparing bills, using a till and handling money.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Commitment to quality customer experience.
  • Exceptional verbal communication - clear, concise and engaging.
  • Passion for board games.
  • An existing broad knowledge of board games and how to play is desirable but not essential, we can train you.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Able to work independently, multi-task and remaining calm under pressure
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
