We're now recruiting for our new café opening in the centre of Bath in October 2019.

 

Positions available include Café Staff, Game Gurus and Assistant Café Managers. Full and part-time hours available. We'll be open evenings and weekends so shift work will be required. CAFÉ STAFF (MEEPSTERS)

You'll be tasked with ensuring that board game players don't go without essential beverages and food for the duration of their gaming session.

From preparing drinks and snacks, to taking and delivering orders, you'll be keeping the supply lines going whilst the dice roll, the cards are shuffled and the meeples march on.

- Salary starts at £8.25 per hour, plus tips and benefits, pension, full or part-time -

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To create a fun, welcoming and professional environment for customers.
  • To explain to customers how the board game café works including the role of the Game Gurus.
  • Ensuring that great drinks and food compliment the game playing experience - knowing our menu and being able to explain the different products.
  • To take accurate orders and ensure that these are prepared and delivered as quickly as possible.
  • Preparing bills, using a till and handling money.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Commitment to quality customer experience.
  • Strong verbal communication - clear, concise and engaging.
  • Able to work independently, multi-task and remaining calm under pressure
  • Passion for board games.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.

 

GAME GURUS

Game Gurus are our board game maître d's - you'll be infectiously passionate and knowledgeable about modern board games, recommending games to our customers and explaining how to play.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To create a fun, welcoming and professional environment for customers, explaining how the board game café works.
  • To help customers choose the right games according to their interests, what they've played before and group size.
  • To explain how to set up chosen games, the key objectives and how to play.
  • To maintain a broad and up to date knowledge of board games, across a variety of genres and especially the new hotness.
  • Organising and coordinating of in-house events such as organised play.
  • Preparing bills, using a till and handling money.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Commitment to quality customer experience.
  • Exceptional verbal communication - clear, concise and engaging.
  • Passion for board games.
  • An existing broad knowledge of board games and how to play is desirable but not essential, we can train you.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Able to work independently, multi-task and remaining calm under pressure
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.

 

ASSISTANT CAFÉ MANAGER

The Assistant Café Manager is a practical, hands-on role, with much of their working time spent introducing customers to the café, preparing and serving food and drinks and/or teaching games.

You'll also be responsible for with ensuring that all staff undertake their duties in accordance with the expectations of Thirsty Meeples.

- Salary starts at £9 per hour, plus tips and benefits, pension, full or part-time -

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In the absence of the Café Manager, take full responsibility for the effective operation of Thirsty Meeples Bath.
  • Welcome customers, prepare and serve food and drink.
  • To explain to customers how the board game café works including the role of the Game Gurus.
  • Manage the café team, ensuring staff work to the expected standards at all times.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance issues as directed and required.
  • Promote and practise relevant health and safety and fire safety standards.
  • Ensure all relevant legislation is adhered to with regard to licensing.
  • Ensure adherence to effective security procedures, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure that accurate cashing up and cleaning procedures are carried out at end of night.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least two years’ café experience.
  • At least one years’ experience in food and beverage management.
  • Experience of leading and motivating a team, including recruitment, training and rotas.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, food hygiene requirements, and licensing laws.
  • Self-motivated and effective in time management.
  • Passion for board games.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
