I love playing this game with friends new to modern board gaming. It's beautiful in it's artwork and the tactile, stackable bamboo parts are always a favourite! Light to medium strategy with lots of different ways to score points. Easy to set up and explain and the building of the map as you go is a fun mechanic for newbies. Definitely recommend.
A beautifully designed, easy to pick up and play game with just enough strategy to get people invested and excited to play. This has become my go-to game to take to family gatherings or introduce to people who don’t play as many board games. The mechanics are easy to teach and can be picked up pretty quickly.
Takenoko is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The entire production is stunning with gorgeous artwork and lovely components with great attention to detail (even the panda and gardener figures are beautifully painted).
Beyond it's good looks though there is a lot going on. It's a relatively simple game to learn so it's a great gateway game, but it's also addictive! Once you've played it a few times you'll want to go back to it over and over to try different strategies and improve your score. We play it probably more than any other game because it has a nice level of challenge, especially after a long week when we're too tired for anything too heavy, and of course it has great replayability.
Appealing theme, great components, good level of challenge that will appeal to a broad range of people. I'd recommend this for both adults and families alike. It's my eight year-olds favourite game so we've just invested in the Takenoko Chibis expansion, which I'd also reccomend if you want to make the game a bit more 'thinky'!
Tried it out in the cafe. It's charming, beautiful, strategic, easy to learn and most importantly allot of fun
Played this with my boys (10 and 12). Took one game and a you tube video to learn, but then the gameplay leads to some very different games. The turns don't take too long and the game moves on well.
Good all round game with strategy, integration and some luck.
