Novel and fun (with a tweak)

There's a lot I like about this game. The magical (Hogwarts-like) theme and artwork is well done.
It feels a tiny bit like Dragonwood, in that you're competing to win the cards in the landscape. I really like the crystal casting to win cards and the moving portal and dice flipping. It's also quite quick to learn.
BUT, the casting cards are too stingy.
My son and I really enjoyed playing this after we ditched the zero and one of the single cast cards (first game he only won 1 card the whole game because he was unlucky with cast cards AND permanent powers!). I do think the game would be even better if there was a 4 crystal casting card as this would make it possible to sometimes try and win 2 cards in a round and give more chance of being able to block wins.
Another gripe is that some of the 'powers' don't make sense (or should be single-use not immediate) for example, the "adding a crystal to any location" card which you have to use immediately, because if you've just won it, you are extremely unlikely to have enough crystals left in play to be able to win another or block a win so the power can never be used. I think the majority of green cards should probably be yellow. I also can't see why it's not a 2-4 player game.
That said, it's great game for magic/potter fans and maybe we'll just play it by rolling a dragonwood dice with each cast dice instead of the cast cards to make casting a bit more generous : )
I do wish some of the licensed HP games were as fun and replayable as this game.
