Mining dwarfs

Ok, you are not mining dwarfs but dwarfs are mining for minerals and gold on a newly discovered planet, but pesky critters of various types are getting in the way. Yes, a co-operative dungeon crawler. Each dwarf has a special ability making enough choices making you feel you actually get to choose what action you are taken. A criticism I have with a lot of co-operative games. The deluxe version is expensive but you are paying for the mini's over the retail version. The mini's look great, the box is big but I think worth it.

Rock and Stone, to the Tabletop

As a long-time player of the Deep Rock Galactic video game, I couldn’t wait to dig into the tabletop version. Let me just say, it rocks—literally and figuratively! This game takes everything I love about the original—dwarves, dangerous caves, and buckets of bugs—and adds a whole new layer of strategy. It feels like a fresh take on dungeon crawlers with that same chaotic charm, but now you’re yelling at friends in person when the swarm hits the fan (trust me, it will).

The cooperative aspect shines, and the tension ramps up in the best ways. You’re constantly juggling resources, blasting bugs, and watching as everything crumbles around you (again, very on-brand for DRG). The miniatures are fantastic, and the gameplay captures the essence of mining deep and fighting off waves of alien nasties.

That said, the rules can feel a little like deciphering Dwarvish runes at first, but once you crack it, the game flows as smooth as a fresh barrel of ale after a mission. And unlike many dungeon crawlers that can drag, this one moves fast and keeps the excitement rolling.

All in all, it’s a gem of a board game—especially if you’re a fan of the video game or just want to take your dungeon-crawling adventures in a new direction. Rock and stone, to the bone!
