Fun and quick to learn if 1:1 puzzle/ strategy games are your thing.

I bought this game originally as something to do with my partner over lockdown as we wanted a 2 player game specifically, hoping that such a game would be better to play than those designed for 2-6 players. Plus my partner loves all things Greek so it seemed like a good shout.

The game doesn't disappoint! It is quick to learn and play. with the premise being you sail around the aegean scavenging resources to trade and fund your architectural digs to discover temples hidden around the board. Given the unique placement of tiles and the compass direction of the game, it's pretty much impossible to play the same game twice. Which makes this game an easy one to return to and enjoy over and over again. The box comes stuffed with tiles, pieces, little sail boats, and a deck of cards all nicely crafted and finished.

We have enjoyed playing this game so far - the only draw back being there is little interactivity in game play! It is quite easy to sail in opposite directions and never have to play against the other player, only speaking to them at the end... But we mix it up a little each time and still have lots of fun.

Excellent by for couples who like 1:1 puzzle and strategy games, ~14 years and up.

Somewhat fun but little interaction

I bought Akrotiri for me and my boyfriend to play whilst in lockdown. We were looking for a game specifically two player as some other games because whilst 2 to 4 player or more exist they’re better the more players you have which isnt possible at this time. We have Played this game a few times now and were excited to do so after reading other reviews online. Unfortunately we find there to be very little interaction which makes the game a tad boring.

It is very easy for players to go off and do their own thing, only interacting with each other to explain their move (which is part of the rules). Other than that It is fun trying to figure out paths and routes to earn as many points as possible. And the pieces/ cubes/ tiles are all very fitting with the aesthetic.

But again, game play could do with some work... board game geek forums have a few suggestions which we have yet to try so any who does buy this should check that out.

Akrotiri places you in the role of an explorer in Classical Greek times, combing the then-uncharted Aegean sea for lost Minoan temples that have long ago fallen into ruin. You've not only heard of these temples hidden around the island of Thera, but you actually have access to the secret maps that tell you of their hidden locations! Two mountains to the north? A volcano to the west? This *must* be the spot...

But running an expedition can be costly. In order to fund your voyages into the unknown and excavate the ancient temples, you will have to first ship resources found on surrounding islands back to the resource-poor island of Thera.

In Akrotiri — which combines tile placement, hand management, and pick-up and delivery — players place land tiles in order to make the board match the maps that they have in hand. Players excavate temples; the ones that are harder to find and the ones further away from Thera are worth more towards victory, but the secret goal cards keep everyone guessing who the victor is until the end! May the gods forever bless you with favorable winds!

This edition features 2 new player colours and revised Goal cards.
