EXIT: The Gate Between Worlds

The Gate Between Worlds is, by my counts, the 21th Exit game (published in English, if you ignore the two jigsaw-based ones). With a very quick and dirty mental math, at an average of between 8 and 10, let's go with 8, puzzles per game, we get to the conclusion that the puzzles and enigmas in this box are around the 200th such conundrums that Inga Brand and Markus Brand, creators and designers of these games, have had to think of. At least.

It is just amazing that after all those games, they still manage to create new ways of befuddle, confuse, and obfuscate the players, while at the same time keeping everything quite approachable.

If you have played previous games in the series, I found The Gate Between Worlds a return to form after some of the, to me, a bit more lackluster latest entries, that tended to be just a bit to easy (water treading, maybe) for my taste. The Gate Between Worlds goes back to the innovation that this series is known for, making the player always think outside the box (and, in many cases, in, around, under, and next to the box).

Each puzzle here is certainly unique, with two or three of them certainly totally new in their approach, and at least one that makes you really think twice about the answer you get to, for the implications if you are wrong.

This games however still keeps the pattern of only opening one or two puzzles at a time, so it is hard to play with more than two or, stretching it, three people. Probably two players is the sweet spot, to…
