Risk Legacy represents what is if not a new, at least a rare concept to boardgaming: campaigning. At its core, the game, particularly at first, plays much like regular Risk with a few changes. Players control countries or regions on a map of the world, and through simple combat (with players rolling dice to determine who loses units in each battle) they try to eliminate all opponents from the game board or control a certain number of "red stars", otherwise known as victory points (VPs).

What's different is that Risk Legacy' changes over time based on the outcome of each game and the various choices made by players. In each game, players choose one of five factions; each faction has uniquely shaped pieces, and more importantly, different rules. At the start of the first game, each of these factions gains the ability to break one minor rule, such as the ability to move troops at any time during your turn, as opposed to only at the end.

What makes this game unique is that when powers are chosen, players must choose one of their faction's two powers, affix that power's sticker to their faction card, then destroy the card that has the other rule on it – and by destroy, the rules mean what they say: "If a card is DESTROYED, it is removed from the game permanently. Rip it up. Throw it in the trash." This key concept permeates through the game. Some things you do in a game will affect it temporarily, while others will affect it permanently. These changes may include boosting the resources of a country (for recruiting troops in lieu of the older "match three symbols" style of recruiting), adding bonuses or penalties to defending die rolls to countries, or adding permanent continent troop bonuses that may affect all players.

The rule book itself is also designed to change as the game continues, with blocks of blank space on the pages to allow for rules additions or changes. Entire sections of rules will not take effect until later in the game. The game box contains different sealed packages and compartments, each with a written condition for opening. The rule book indicates that these contain the rule additions, additional faction powers, and other things that should not be discussed here for spoiler protection.

The winner of each of the first 15 games receives a "major bonus," such as founding a major city (which only he will be allowed to start on in future games), deleting a permanent modifier from the board, destroying a country card (preventing it from providing any resources towards purchasing troops in future games), changing a continent troop bonus, or naming a continent, which gives that player a troop bonus in future games. Players who did not win but were not eliminated are allowed to make minor changes to the world, such as founding a minor city or adding resources to a country.

It should be noted that although cards are ripped up over the course of the game, there are so many cards added via the sealed packages, that the game does not suffer. Nor is this a "disposable" game, merely a customized one. The game can continue to change beyond the 15 game campaign, and even when it finally does stop changing, you still have a copy of Risk that is completely unique, and plays better than any other version of Risk.

Initial games take approximately 30-90 minutes to play, which includes a brief rules explanation and setup.

All online orders are picked from our separate warehouse. We always ensure that your games are well packed before leaving. Wherever possible we'll re-use a cardboard box that we received games in from one of our suppliers. We figure it's better that way for our planet. But we do also use new boxes and wraps. If you have a strong preference either way please let us know in your Order Comments. 

Our warehouse operates Monday to Friday, except bank holidays. Orders placed on a working day before 1:30pm will be packed and despatched that same day. All order are sent tracked via the Royal Mail. You will be able to follow your order from our warehouse to your delivery destination once your order has been fulfilled.

Postage is worked out by spend and delivery type. These options are listed below. There is also the option to collect your online order at our café, no delivery charge is made.

We do not accept responsibility for this these and will not refund shipping fees in these circumstance. This is a tracked service so you can check your delivery is on the way. Your order should arrive the next working day from day of despatch. Deliveries are made on Saturdays. You will be sent an email or SMS message to confirm delivery. We charge a flat-rate of £5 for Tracked 24 orders, meaning you can order multiple items with no increase in shipping costs.

STANDARD SHIPPING: ROYAL MAIL TRACKED 48 - UNITED KINGDOM 
This is a tracked service so you can check your delivery is on the way. Your order should arrive 2 working days from day of despatch. Deliveries are made on Saturdays. You will be sent an email or SMS message to confirm delivery. We charge a flat-rate of £4.00 for Tracked 48 orders, meaning you can order multiple items with no increase in shipping costs.

COLLECT AT THE CAFÉ 
At check-out you will to have the option to collect your order from our café in Oxford and avoid the shipping charge. We will notify you by email as soon as your order is ready to collect. Orders will be held for a maximum of 21 days before being returned to our warehouse.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • All delivery costs are present at the 'My Basket' screen once the shipping destination is chosen, before any money is taken.
  • Please note next working day delivery does not include Sunday, Bank Holidays, Public Holidays and substitute days (see the GOV UK website for clarification). 
  • If you request that the package is left in a safe place, this will only be done at the discretion of the delivery driver.  
  • Can't be home for delivery? Don't worry - Thirsty Meeples can ship to any UK address so you can have your order delivered to your place of work, to a friend, a relative or neighbour. Simply enter your preferred delivery address when checking out.

PRE-ORDERS

Please note that if any other products are ordered in conjunction with a pre-order item these will be held until we can fulfil the whole order.

Should you wish to subsequently split the order with in-stock items sent separately then please contact us. Our usual shipping fees will apply to each such order sent.

When placing a pre-order using debit / credit card payment you will be charged for the full amount of the order being placed. In practice this will normally occur within 2 working days. When placing a pre-order using Paypal, Apple Pay or Amazon Pay the full payment will be sent to us at the time the order is placed.

All pre-order dates given have been provided by the relevant UK distributor, however these are subject to changes beyond our control. We do our upmost to keep the estimated release dates as accurate as possible on the product page for each pre-order item. Please refer to these for updates on the most current estimate for the shipping date. 

If you wish to cancel a pre-order before release then please contact us, quoting your order number, and we will issue you a refund. Any Meeple Stars earned through our Reward Programme will be deducted from your customer account.
