My partner and I had seen this reviewed on a Youtube video and instantly wanted to play.
The game set is beautifully put together with a great selection of animal figures, boards and other pieces to play with. The rules are simple and easy to learn. The tactics are tricky to master with lots of pieces to consider and a mechanic that keeps you thinking two or three turns ahead. For people who like to play in that way its great, but it can be played without too much in depth analysis and just enjoying it in a simpler way.
My only complaints with this game are:
- Set up takes some time as the game pieces have to be laid out in a particular way to maintain the balance between players.
- If you are only 2 players then the game follows a predictable start for 1 or 2 turns as you will always start with the same zoos and the same starting animals, there is no element of randomness (again, this is to maintain the delicate balance between players). It also becomes quite clear by a certain point that someone is in the lead and there is little chance of catching up to them.
Highly recommended, but consider that it may be more enjoyable with 4 or 5 players.
