All time fave.

One of our all time favourites in the family, it's accessible and enjoyable. You can play with a lightness of just building your own cities and roads or be aggressive and merge into others buildings etc... There are many expansion packs too which furthers the game and we highly recommend looking into the ones you'd enjoy. It's easy for you to play with anyone and the game changes dynamics when playing with two vs more people which is fun and creates new challenges!

City building, very satisfying

It's hard to describe but it's a classic best seller for a reason. Great for adults and children. You build cities, taking random tiles and placing strategically to get the most points (building cities or completing roads etc) or to block opponents from getting points. Some points are scored during the game and others at the end. You need a good sized table to play on (like a dining room table). Tiles are smooth, thick cardboard and last well. Meeples (wooden people) are made of wood.

Really satisfying until the end

Building a medieval landscape is so satisfying especially with some expansions. Its just a shame that the scoring is way more complex than the gameplay so the end of games feels a bit flat for me

Great Game

Had the game recommended to me prior to a trip away. It’s different to games I’ve played before which are board, card or dice based.

The game play is easy to pick up, strategy elements when playing competitively are fun and as a whole this has jumped towards the top of the pile of our games.

Highly recommend people try this.

OVERVIEW

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his meeples on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner.

During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like: "Is it really worth putting my last meeple there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead, giving him a hard time to complete his project and score points?" Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities.

Entirely redesigned and modernised, this edition includes two expansions: The River and the Abbot.
