Great Gateway Game

Century: Spice Road is a neat little strategy and engine building game where you and your opponents are Spice Merchants.

The game is easy to set up and involves two very simple actions; Play a card from your hand or pick your cards up.

There is a market for you to purchase new cards for your hand which helps you grow your engine to collect enough spices to buy the market cards which score you points at the end of the game.

I really enjoy Century: Spice Road as it is easy to teach to beginners and also can appeal to more seasoned gamers in trying to complete the perfect spice making engine to get those large point cards.

Easy to learn but a little on the light side

This game is great for anyone who like a light bit of strategy. But for my personal tastes its a little too light. I’d play it again, but it didn’t captivate me. I didn’t find anything fresh and new here, and felt it was an average game. Its probably a good introduction game for families to play with younger children. The game is ok but for anyone looking to get a bit more involved in strategy this probably inst for you.

Quick to learn, excellent pace of play

Bought after enjoying Splendor and had worried they would be too similar. Having played Spice Road think they are different enough to own both. Spice Road has a pleasingly fast pace of play and I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys this genre.

Easy to learn, quick to play

Went for this game over Splendor - good decision as I think there's a bit more replay-ability. Really easy to learn (rules are literally 2 sides of A5 with lots of images) and fun to play as well.

OVERVIEW

Century: Spice Road is the first in a series of games that explores the history of each century with spice-trading as the theme for the first instalment. In Century: Spice Road, players are caravan leaders who travel the famed silk road to deliver spices to the far reaches of the continent for fame and glory. Each turn, players perform one of four actions:

• Establish a trade route (by taking a market card)
• Make a trade or harvest spices (by playing a card from hand)
• Fulfill a demand (by meeting a victory point card's requirements and claiming it)
• Rest (by taking back into your hand all of the cards you've played)

The last round is triggered once a player has claimed their fifth victory point card, then whoever has the most victory points wins. p>
