Fast and Dirty
BattleTech: Alpha Strike contains rules for using Battletech minis (or whatever you want to proxy with) for playing fast, table top miniature style skirmishes using 3D terrain scaled to 6mm (or whatever you have on hand). This strips back the granular nature of the core game almost to its bare bones, and there are no traditional hex maps in sight.
The book is fairly easy to navigate with a lovely print quality. The rules still amount to a good bit of crunch, however, catering towards combined arms warfare if that's your thing.
If you're a 'gear head' (like myself) and enjoy the simulation aspect of BattleTech then this may not be for you. However one of the joys of BattleTech is how scalable it can be with the huge offering of various rules and play styles on offer. If you want to play a company level game but don't have much time? You will likely find value here.
And if you want a miniatures game that's a break from something like Warhammer with a good amount of detail, you'll probably find something to like here to.
